John Huggler was a Boston-based composer of orchestral works, chamber music pieces and songs. He was also a talented jazz musician who taught composition theory and the history of jazz at Boston's University of Massachusetts for 25 years.
Born in Rochester, New York, Huggler was a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and earned advanced degrees at Cornell University among others. Huggler was well-known for his getting together impromptu for frequent jazz jam sessions.
This is the first performance on November 13, 1964 with Erick Leinsdorf conducting the Boston Symphony Orchestra with Bethany Beardslee, soprano.
