Emerson Whithorne (1884-1958): Fandango (1932)
Emerson Whithorne (1884-1958), an American composer who is practically unheard of in his own country today, composed much impressionistic and atmospheric music. Popular in the concert hall, he wrote three symphonies, a number of tone poems, piano music and a highly acclaimed Poem for Piano and Orchestra. Here we hear the short captivatig Fandango (1932) played by the National Symphony Orchestra, Rudolf Ganz conducting in this 1940 performance.
