ABOUT
Ever since its creation the Teatro de la Zarzuela -in the same way as the Opéra-Comique in Paris and the Volksoper in Vienna- has been a meeting point for several generations of audiences and for all those who are attracted to Spanish culture. At this theatre, where the Spanish musical comedy has always been cultivated, the best works of the zarzuela repertoire are still sung and performed.
The Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid was founded in 1987 and it has distinguished itself through its innovative programming that has always combined highlights of contemporary creation with the traditional repertoire. Its founder and first Director was Miguel Groba, who held this post until June 2000. Since September of that year, the Madrid director José Ramón Encinar is the artistic and musical responsible of the Orchestra.
It has performed with success in some of the major musical centres of our country such as Palau de la Música (Valencia), Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria (Santander), Teatro Arriaga (Bilbao), Gran Teatro (Córdoba), Teatro Calderón (Valladolid), Teatro Colón (A Coruña), Palacio de la Ópera (A Coruña), Auditorio de Galicia, Auditorio Manuel de Falla (Granada), Euskalduna, Kursaal y Auditori (Barcelona); and foreign such as Carnegie Hall (New York), Teatro Bellas Artes (México D.F.), Teatro La Fenice (Venetia), Konzerthaus (Berlin) or Théatre du Châtelet (Paris).
