British composer Richard Causton joined the young musicians of the European Union Youth Orchestra in spring 2012 during their residential rehearsal period in Interlaken, Switzerland, to put the finishing touches to his first commission by the EUYO, Twenty-Seven Heavens. The piece was commissioned as part of the PRS for Music Foundation's New Music 20x12 programme, in celebration of the London 2012 Olympics.
The piece had it's Dutch premiere at the Royal Concergebouw in Amsterdam on 20th August 2012, its UK premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival on 23rd August in the Usher Hall, and its German premiere at the Staatstheater in Darmstadt on 25th August.
