Boris Karloff (1887-1969) narrates in this 1940s-era recording of Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf," Op. 67. The Vienna State Opera Orchestra is conducted by Mario Rossi. Issued on the Vanguard label, serial number VSD 2010. (I am not sure where the Tiblisi Symphony Orchestra- at right, came from.) This studio recording appeared originally as a 78 rpm single from Mercury's "Childcraft" label.
In this legendary 1959 performance, the late English actor, broadcaster, writer and composer Michael Flanders OBE, (1922-1975) narrates Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf (Петя и волк). Efrem Kurtz (1900-1995) conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra. I created this video from the LP depicted above, issued on the Seraphim label, serial number S-60172. Flanders was best known to the general public for his partnership with Donald Swann performing as the duo Flanders and Swann.
