In 1903, the composer and pianist Isaac Albéniz recorded three improvisations to piano cylinders. These priceless musical documents are the only known recording of a nineteeth-century pianist improvising at the piano. Albéniz impressed Liszt with his playing and improvising, and these three short tracks are beguiling and wonderful documents of a lost tradition of performance.
